*/"If you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own!"/*

With that memorable tag line, Scoop Nisker has been reporting on world,
national and local events and countercultural goings-on from the early
seventies glory days of San Francisco's first "underground" commercial
radio station, KSAN, and up to the present day on Bay Area stations KFOG
and KPFA. Along the way, he found time to witness historic events,
interview the major cultural figures of our time, and find Buddhist
enlightenment in India, among other adventures.

Wes "Scoop" Nisker has been part of the San Francisco Bay Area political
and alternative culture scene for over thirty years. He virtually
invented the unique genre of news reporting mixed with humor and social
commentary that is the inspiration of much of contemporary political
humor evidenced by TV programs like the "Daily Show with Jon Stewart".

Using our current social reality as a backdrop, Scoop now performs his
verbal gymnastics on stage with comic monologues and songs in which he
explores the foolish human condition and sorrows of living in the modern
age, with wit and penetrating insights on politics, society and the
natural world.

As part of a celebration of 30 years in community radio, KFCF 88.1 FM is
hosting an *April Fools Day Party with Scoop Nisker* in North Fork on
Friday, April 1, 2005. The event is a benefit for listener-sponsored,
free speech radio in Central California and takes place at the North
Fork Town Hall, located at 33060 Road 228 in the mountain community of
North Fork, an hour north of Fresno. The party begins at 6:30 pm with
food and beverages and the music of the local group Good Medicine to
warm up the crowd. Then Scoop will have you simultaneously rolling in
the aisles and thinking deep thoughts about the universe and our place
in it. Tickets are available at the Movies Video Shop, 1435 N. Van Ness
(559-233-8346) and KFCF Radio (559-233-2221).

WES “SCOOP” NISKER is a Buddhist meditation teacher, journalist, and
author of two books about the sixties generation, /Crazy Wisdom/ and
/The Big Bang, The Buddha, and the Baby Boom/. For over twenty years, he
has been leading retreats and workshops worldwide in Buddhist insight
meditation, humor, and philosophy. He is also editor of an international
Buddhist magazine, /Inquiring Mind. / Before devoting himself to writing
full time, he was a well-known radio announcer who went by the name of
“Scoop.” He still does the occasional commentary on San Francisco radio
station KFOG. He lives with his family in Berkeley, California.
