Larry Bensky is a literary and political journalist with more than forty =
years experience in print and broadcast media. Perhaps best known as =
national affairs correspondent for Pacifica Radio from 1987-1998, Bensky =
covered numerous national and international events for Pacifica, =
including the Iran-contra hearings in 1987, the confirmation hearings =
for four Supreme Court justices, and numerous demonstrations and =
protests in Washington and elsewhere. He won the prestigious George Polk =
award for his coverage of Iran-contra, and has won a record five Gold =
Reel awards from the National Association of Community Broadcasters.=20

Before his work for Pacifica, Bensky was one of the original =
"underground" newscasters and talk show hosts on "alternative rock" =
stations KMPX and KSAN in San Francisco. And before (and during) his =
broadcasting career, Bensky has been a print journalist and editor, =
including positions as managing editor of Ramparts Magazine in 1968, =
Paris editor of The Paris Review (1964-66) and as an editor of the New =
York Times Book Review. For the past fifteen years he has been a =
political writer and columnist for the East Bay Express, and a =
contributor to the Los Angeles Times book review, and The Nation.=20

He currently hosts a weekly two-hour radio talk show, "Sunday Salon," =
originating at KPFA in Berkeley, and carried on KFCF in Fresno. And he =
was founding managing editor of the Mediachannel (www.mediachannel.org) =
where he is now senior editor. He has won a lifetime achievement award =
from the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Golden Gadfly =
award from Media Alliance. He has taught broadcast journalism classes =
since 1988 at Stanford, and mass communications, journalism, and =
broadcasting classes since 1992 at California State University, Hayward. =

Waddama has been together for three years playing a blend of reggae, =
funk, Latin, and African percussive jams. Their original material is =
interlaced with lyrics in Spanish, Swahili, and English. Based in the =
Central San Joaquin Valley of California, these six musicians =
incorporate a wide variety of instruments including the didgeridoo from =
Australia, wooden and metal flutes, djimbes from Africa, congas from =
Latin America plus the guitars and drums of world music into a crowd =
pleasing musical experience guaranteed to propel people to the dance =
floor!
"Waddama" is an Australian aboriginal celebration in which everyone in =
the village is invited to join in the festivities. Our band lives up to =
that name by often inviting guests such as spoken-word performers, =
artists, musicians and dancers on-stage. Waddama is also very supportive =
of activist groups in the Central Valley, and are known to help organize =
fund-raisers to support community events.
