The lecture focuses on one of the compelling issues of our time - the role

ecolgical disasters and technological excess. This is a benefit for the
FFCF made possible with suppor from the Fresno Regional Foundation.
Admission for the lecture and refreshments is $10 at the door. For more
information call the FFCF office at (559) 233-2221.

Professor Thanasis Maskaleris was born in Arkadia, Greece and immigrated to
the U.S. at the age of 17. He studied Philosophy and English at the
University of Oklahoma, and Comparative Literature at Indiana State
University, the University of Michigan and UC Berkeley. He has written
original poetry and translated comtemporary Greek poetry and prose
extensively. Professor Maskaleris taught Classics, Comparative Literature
and Creative Writing at San Francisco State University, until his recent
retirement. He has also been the director of the Center for Modern Greek
Studies since it was founded and has coordinated efforts that led to the
establishment of the Nikos Kazantzakis Chair at the University. He has
recently co-translated in to English Nikos Kazantzakis' work "Russia", and
is currently working on a critical-biographical study of the noted Greek
composer.
