KFCF is sponsoring an evening with Larry Bensky, Pacific National =
Affairs Correspondent and host of KPFA's Sunday Salon, on Saturday, =
March 15th at North Fork Town Hall. =20

Doors open at 5 to music by Smiley Mountain Band; Larry Bensky will =
speak from 6-7, and WADDAMA,
a local blend of reggae, funk and African and Latin percussion (with a =
political edge) will play from 7-9. Suggested donation for admission is =
$10.  TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR.

There will also be dinner of homemade soup, salad, bread from La =
Boulangerie Bakery and juice from Odwalla, available for an additional =
$5 donation. Desserts and a no-host bar will be available throughout the =

Hansel Kern at 877-5800. Tickets will also be available at "The Movies" =
in the Tower District. All proceeds benefit KFCF, Free Speech Radio for =

Larry Bensky is a literary and political journalist with more than forty =
years experience in print and broadcast media. Perhaps best known as =
national affairs correspondent for Pacifica Radio from 1987-1998, Bensky =
covered numerous national and international events for Pacifica, =
including the Iran-contra hearings in 1987, the confirmation hearings =
for four Supreme Court justices, and numerous demonstrations and =
protests in Washington and elsewhere. He won the prestigious George Polk =
award for his coverage of Iran-contra, and has won a record five Gold =
Reel awards from the National Association of Community Broadcasters.=20

Before his work for Pacifica, Bensky was one of the original =
"underground" newscasters and talk show hosts on "alternative rock" =
stations KMPX and KSAN in San Francisco. And before (and during) his =
broadcasting career, Bensky has been a print journalist and editor, =
including positions as managing editor of Ramparts Magazine in 1968, =
Paris editor of The Paris Review (1964-66) and as an editor of the New =
York Times Book Review. For the past fifteen years he has been a =
political writer and columnist for the East Bay Express, and a =
contributor to the Los Angeles Times book review, and The Nation.=20

He currently hosts a weekly two-hour radio talk show, "Sunday Salon," =
originating at KPFA in Berkeley, and carried on KFCF in Fresno. And he =
was founding managing editor of the Mediachannel (www.mediachannel.org) =
where he is now senior editor. He has won a lifetime achievement award =
from the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Golden Gadfly =
award from Media Alliance. He has taught broadcast journalism classes =
since 1988 at Stanford, and mass communications, journalism, and =
broadcasting classes since 1992 at California State University, Hayward. =
